Out of town trailbuilding junkies coming your way

Postby Alerider » Mon Jul 26, 2010 8:18 pm

Hello there folks, my wife and I are spending a week on vacation in Wrightsville Beach 8/21 to the following Saturday, and thinking about bringing the mtn bikes and/or the road bikes. I'm the current vice president of our local mtn bike club called the Tarheel Trailblazers based out of the Charlotte N.C. area, my wife is a Dirt Diva (our smarter more organized sister club) have heard good things about the trail work this club is doing, and if possible would like to hook up with some locals and see/ride some of your handiwork.

Two of my good friends, the current President of our club, and our past President met up with representatives from your club at the recent IMBA/SORBA summit, and told me to check you folks out since I'll be in the neighborhood. At least they told me they met a couple of you, but I heard about the Fat Tire kegs on the Kubota, so who knows. ;D

Anyway, I may start trolling your site as I prepare for vacation, and it would be cool to meet up and ride with some fellow trailbuilding boys and girls, and maybe have a bevy or two.

Thanks

Probably the best thing to do would be to post a date(s) and time(s) you want to ride and see who can join you.

I'd be glad to ride anytime after 5 during the week or any time on a weekend.

I'll try and post up some times as it gets closer to vacation. My buddy that we share a house with on vacation isn't a rider, but we are both semi-pro beer drinkers, so it's always a bit iffy on the schedule.

Hopefully I'll be able to check out some of the good work I've heard this club has been doing. My big wheel ss needs a ride on a new trail.

We have people with varying schedules so it seems there are folks out there at all hours.

I ride a SS 29er out there. I've always thought the trail was better suited for a 26, but I enjoy mine out there nonetheless.

Just let us all know - I know any of us would be glad to ride along.

Bikes are loaded on the car, and headed your way tomorrow. I just found out I won't have internet access at the house we're renting in Wrightsville Beach, all the phones we'll have with us have crappy 2g internet, which is almost useless and like dial up, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to post up when we might be riding to see if some locals could give us a tour. I'll try though.

If nothing else, I have directions printed out form sirbikesalot's website (very nice BTW), saw a good video of the trail during my last meeting at work today doing a little multi-tasking, so hoping the weather holds out to ride what looks to be a fine piece of trail you folks have.

If you see an older model Toyota Camry with an orange One Niner and a teenie tiny wheeled black Zion SS riding around looking lost, it's me, so flag me down and take me to the trail or buy me a beer. My lack of sense of direction is quite infamous here in the Charlotte metro area, especialy out in the woods building trail, so no telling where I might end up.

Now I'm going to go finish carbo loading with these nice Terrapin Hopsecutioner's I have in the fridge, and head your way in the am.

Rode Blue Clay this morning. Really sweet piece of singletrack. Great use of those ridgelines. Not sure I'll be able to post up when we ride next, but just wanted to post up how much I enjoyed this trail. Very nicely done.

Sorry I missed you Greg. We rode Tuesday and Friday morning, and I really did enjoy all the hard work this club has put in at the Blue Clay trail. I had good intentions of riding late Thursday afternoon, but did a yoga class with my wife in the late morning, where I felt like I was in a microwave it was so hot in the class, and swear I sweated out the equivalent of a metric century in about an hour and a half...so it was early afternoon ale and the beach to cool off in the water.

I know how much hard work has to go into such a cool trail like Blue Clay, and it was nice to hook up virtually a bit via this forum.
