New Ride Coordinator

Postby jsavage1 » Sun May 23, 2010 6:22 pm

Hello CFSORBA!!!!
Wow after much debate and a rigorous wrestling match for the position....there is a new ride coordinator in town,
Jesse Savage!! Please hold your applause. HA HA, n-e-ways....I thought we would start it off soon and get the ball rolling by suggesting a Raleigh/Durham trip for this Saturday, May 29th. I thought since it was a long weekend and all maybe we could get some involvement. This would be just a day trip...leave early sat morning and ride all day and come back later Saturday evening. We will start the day at Crabtree and then maybe something close to that for the afternoon ride. I'm open to suggestions for everything...just speak up. We'll try to carpool for those who are willing to split gas$. Pass it along to those who may not frequent the site. Please post up or call me to let me know how many are coming. We'll settle to place to meet and all later in the week. I hope everyone can come!!

Wish I could. I'll be in the mountains for the weekend. Taking my bike, but don't know if I'll have a chance to ride.

Can't make this one. I'll be in the VA mountains - hopefully riding some. Hope fully I can make the next one.

Congrats Jay. I hope to make some of these.

Unsure about Raleigh this weekend. Will let you know if I can join in.

As an FYI:

Raleigh trails: As I type this they are all closed and there is a chance of rain today, Friday and Sat.: http://trianglemtb.com/

I've been disappointed more than once when trying to ride up there - the trails seem to close with even a sniff of rain. Is there a back up plan if we can't go up there?

286: I was speaking with a person from Raleigh recently who told me that he heard there was an officer at the trail head handing out tickets to those coming out of the woods several weekends back. Not sure if it was a one-time thing and it was second hand information - but something to know.

I saw that also Van-Go.If Raliegh is closed one suggestion would be San LEE in Sanford, always open, hard climbs, two huge rock gardens.

Yeah, I've been watching the weather and of course it's gonna be sketchy any time you try to plan something :HB
However, I would say that there is always options....sanlee and if that looks questionable then we'll just have a big UNCW ride. I think the important thing is to get together as a group and have a story to tell at the end of it. Plus my bike could use a good washing ;D

We'll probably make the call later in the week...we have to watch the weather. If we're going to go to the Raleigh area then we'll have to leave early...7am to get there by 9 so we can ride till 11 break for lunch start up again around 12:30 or 1 and ride till 3ish then come home. If we stay here then we can just set a time to meet at UNCW. Unless someone has a better suggestion?

okay, they moved to a 60% chance of rain for sat. in Raleigh, so we will just stay here in town and ride. It looks like we may have a better chance of missing the showers. I am thinking a 10am ride at BC. what do you guys think??

woo hoo!!!!!! what an awesome ride to day!! The group that showed up was a blast. For those of you who couldn't make it, you missed a great time. The group was fast and some even stuck around for a 3rd lap!! We saw one copperhead, swapped bikes a few times to try something different and Greg almost tested the sturdiness of the new bridges. We will do it again soon.

Had a blast Jesse can't wait for the next one.Everyone be careful on the rocks before the new bridges,at the right angle and speed you could be the first test dumby on the handrails,I got lucky and stayed on the bike.I vote for Sherman's Branch in Concord as the next ride,11 miles of pure fun.

Great ride today guys. It was great to ride in a group for a change. Lots of fun swapping bikes too! I missed the (almost) crash but heard the primal scream…good advice to everyone to be careful of the gravel before the new bridges...we need to look at mixing in some crusher run to tighten the gravel up entering the bridges.

For all of you guys/girls that missed it be sure to make the next one.

I'm definitely up for Sherman's Branch in Concord...if you plan a ride on June 19th or 20th...I am planning on ridding the White Water Center in Charlotte that weekend...might as well ride a couple of days!

How about planning a series of night rides during June/July to beat the heat?
